Have you ever had nightmares of vast ancient swamps waiting and calling? And of strange machines moving beneath their surface? Gigantic rusty gears, pistons and pipes. Wandering blue lights that lure strangers into the mire. The atrocious amalgam of living metal and rotting plants...
About
Beneath the Wetlands is a Fabric vanilla-style mod created by the Birchfolks team and inspired by a creepypasta. It focuses on expanding the content related to swamp biomes. The mod adds new mobs, blocks, items and structures. BtW is under development and more features will come in the future.
Fabric API and GeckoLib are required.
BtW is compatible with world-generation mods, even those that add new biomes (for the structures to generate in them, names of these biomes must be put manually in the config file).
Currently BtW supports the following languages:
Since the translations may not be 100% and we aim to add more languages, we are seeking for community help. If you want to translate the mod into your language, feel free to contact us on Discord.
Features
Mobs
- Elder Gear Golem - a mini-boss with different attacks that can be activated in its dungeon in the swamps, where ancient machinery still trembles as if remembering its purpose
- Gear Golem - a friendly quiet guardian that can be built by a player (similar to an iron golem but an animated copper gear needs to be placed on its back)
- Will-o'-the-Wisp - spawns in the swamps at night and flees as a player approaches, though some say it lingers just long enough to lead explorers astray
Blocks and Items
- Sapropel Block - generates on the bottom of the swamps, breaks into several pieces of sapropel
- Sapropel - can be put into a composter for bone meal
- Peat - also generates on the bottom of the swamps
- Dry Peat - peat can be dried in a furnace, then used as fuel
- Mire Block - toxic goo that generates in the swamps as small lakes
- Sulfur Nugget - has a chance to drop from peat, can be used to craft torches and as a one-time flint and steel
- Bog Iron Ore - generates on the bottom of the swamps
- Raw Bog Iron
- Raw Bog Iron Block
- Bog Iron Ingot - can be remelted into a common iron ingot
- Block of Bog Iron
- Tattered Block of Bog Iron
- Cut Bog Iron, Slab, Stairs
- Sunken Bricks, Slab, Stairs, Wall
- Fume Trap - redstone-powered block that emits hot fumes
- Copper Valve - essentially works like a lever but can be waterlogged
- Bottled Will-o'-the-Wisp - obtained by clicking on a will-o'-the-wisp with a bottle
- Copper Gear - a decorative block, cannot be used in redstone mechanisms
- Animated Copper Gear - used to build a copper golem (can be either crafted with a bottled will-o'-the-wisp and a copper gear or by clicking with the former on the latter)
- Broken Copper Gear - an old, oxidized version of a copper gear
- Animated Broken Copper Gear - same as an animated copper gear but used for activating an elder gear golem
- Elder Gear Golem Heart - drops from an elder gear golem, can be used for crafting an oxidizer
- Oxidizer - launches explosives that damage mobs and oxidize copper blocks, a reengineered relic that was never meant for human hands
- Spawn Eggs - for every new mob
Structures
- Elder Golem Dungeon - a vault built around the dormant elder gear golem... unless a player wants to reactivate the giant
- Pipes, cogs, cisterns, pistons, mechanisms - half-buried monuments to a bygone world
Other
- Advancements
- Swamp Call Sounds - rarely play at night in swamp biomes
- Config file - includes mod settings that can be tweaked (what biomes the structures generate in, whether an elder gear golem has a bossbar)
- Some hidden minor mechanics - not everything in the wetlands wishes to be found

FAQ
FAQ
Q: What creepypasta is this mod based on?
A: It's a short creepypasta from an imageboard. You can read it translated into English in our Discord.
Q: What versions of Minecraft are supported?
A: Currently 1.19.2 and 1.20.1. We aim to support the newest versions.
Q: Can you downgrade this mod to 1.12.2?
A: No. Downgrading a mod is very tedious and some features might break.
Q: Can you make a Forge version of this mod?
A: Not at the moment. Fabric is much more user- and developer-friendly. But maybe someday.
Q: Why does updating take so long?
A: There are only three of us and modding isn't our job (unfortunately). We do it in our free time.
Q: Can you translate this mod to [language]?
A: No, but maybe you can. If you want to translate the mod into the language you speak, contact us via the dedicated channel in our Discord.
Q: Can the structures of this mod generate in the biomes of other mods?
A: Yes, but for this to happen you need to manually put the names of biomes in the config file. We didn't make the structures generate in all swamp biomes by default in case you wouldn't want BtW to interfere with other mods.
Q: Where can I find the config file?
A: There's a folder in the Minecraft root directory named "config", inside of it you can find "wetlands.json".
