Percy's Display Kit is a datapack which offers immersive and intuitive tools to display your treasured items in the world.
Getting Started
To get started, you first need to craft a Display Kit.
The Display Kit is crafted by placing the following items in a crafting grid:
- A Bundle (undyed)
- A Stick
- A Lightning Rod (waxed or unwaxed, but not oxidised)
- An Amethyst Shard
- An Arrow
It's a shapeless crafting recipe, so it doesn't matter where you place the items in the crafting grid.
Note: Using an existing bundle for this crafting recipe will overwrite all items inside. Make sure you use an empty bundle. Be careful!
Inside your Display Kit you'll find the following items:
- Displaycer
- Rod of Rotation
- Shard of Scale
- Adjustment Arrow
Displaycer
The Displaycer is the most important tool of the Display Kit, as it creates the displays.
To create a display simply drop an item, point the Displaycer at that item, and interact (right-click by default). The item will turn into an Item Display with a green glow.
The green glow means it's selected. While the display is selected, it can be edited using the other tools. To deselect the display, interact with it using the Displaycer. Displays are automatically deselected when no player is nearby.
When a display is not selected, pointing the Displaycer at it highlights the display. Interacting with it will select it.
Renaming a paper, and using that as the item, will not display the item. It will instead create a Text Display and use the custom name as the text. Similarly, renaming any head item (e.g. Wither Skull, Creeper Head, Player Head, etc.) to a valid Minecraft username, will create a Text Display showing that player's head as a sprite.
To remove a display and get its item back, simply use the Displaycer to punch it while it's highlighted or selected.
Rod of Rotation
The Rod of Rotation is used to rotate the displays their x, y, and z axes. It has modes it can cycle through to select which axis the display is rotated.
While holding the Rod of Rotation in your hand, and not looking at anything that can be interacted with, interact to cycle through its modes.
Once an axis is selected, punch or interact with the display using the Rod of Rotation to make it rotate along that axis. By default, the display will rotate 45 degrees. Holding sneak while rotating will make it rotate 2.5 degrees.
Shard of Scale
The Shard of Scale is used to resize the displays.
While holding the Shard of Scale, punch or interact with the display to make it bigger or smaller. By default, it scales by one block. Holding sneak while scaling will make it scale by 1/16 of a block (a pixel).
Arrow of Adjustment
The Arrow of Adjustment is used to move the displays in the world. Just like the Rod of Rotation, the Arrow of Adjustment has modes it can cycle through to select which direction the display should move.
While holding the Arrow of Adjustment in your hand, and not looking at anything that can be interacted with, interact with the Arrow of Adjustment to cycle through its modes. The modes are:
- Forwards/Backwards
- Left/Right
- Up/Down
Once a direction is selected, punch or interact with the display using the Arrow of Adjustment to move it. This is directional, based on the direction the player is facing. For example, Forwards/Backwards always moves the display away or towards the viewer.
By default, the display gets moved by half a block. Holding sneak while moving the display moves it 1/32 of a block (half a pixel).
Map of Mimicry
The Map of Mimicry is used to copy the transformation of one display to another.
The Map of Mimicry isn't included in the Display Kit, and can instead be crafted by combining a piece of Paper and an Ink Sac in a crafting grid.
To use the Map of Mimicry, interact with a display while it's selected. This will write the display's transformation data to the Map of Mimicry in your hand. To write the transformation data back to a display, make sure the display is selected, and then punch the display with the Map of Mimicry in your hand.
Riding Minecarts
The displays can also ride Minecarts.
To make sure Minecarts don't randomly pick up displays, displays will only mount Minecarts when they are selected. When a Display is selected, they will automatically mount any empty Minecart that's within a block.
