This datapack adds several unique variants of Cows, Chickens, and Pigs. These new variants can be unlocked by breeding animals using special Mutagenic Foods, then crossbred to unlock even more variants.
Overview
There are three main categories of variants added in this datapack: Chromatic, Luminous, and Mythical. Each category has 16+ mob variants, as well as a set of custom foods (Seeds, Carrots, and Wheat) required to breed mobs of those variants.
In general, breeding any two mobs with on tier of food will result in a child of that tier. Breeding mobs with ordinary wheat, seeds, or carrots will result in a child with the same variant as one of the parents.
Unlocking new variants does more than give you a fun looking variant - each new variant also has new mechanics. Chickens lay unique new eggs, Cows give new types of milk, and Pigs gain a variety of buffs when ridden in different environments.
Mutagenic Crops
There are three tiers of Mutagenic Crops which are required to breed the new variants. These foods can be found by growing and harvesting the previous tier of crop in a specific location.
If you want to make the process of finding these biomes less tedious, check out my Biome Scanner datapack!
Chromatic Crops
Normal wheat and carrots harvested in a Flower Forest have a chance to drop Chromatic seeds and carrots. Once found, these crops can be planted and grown in any biome. They grow like normal crops, and can be fed to mobs to unlock Chromatic variants!
Luminous Crops
Harvesting Chromatic wheat and carrots in the Deep Dark has a chance to drop Luminous seeds and carrots. These crops glow in the dark, and once found can be planted and grown in any biome. Feeding mobs these crops will result in a Luminous child!
Mythical Crops
When you reach the End, growing and harvesting Chromatic wheat and carrots has a chance to drop Mythical seeds and carrots. Once found, these crops can be grown in any biome.
Breeding
When you breed mobs using any of the Mutagenic Crops, the result will be one of the 50+ new variants, depending on a number of factors. Each variant has a tier (Chromatic, Luminous, or Mythical) and a base color (One of the 16 dye colors).
If either parent is fed a non-mutagenic crop, the variant of the child will be randomly chosen from one of the parents. Otherwise, the following process is used to determine the child's variant:
- The tier of the child is determined based on the lowest tier food used to feed a parent.
- If both parents are a vanilla variant, the base color of will be Red, Yellow, or Blue.
- If one of the parents is a vanilla variant, the base color will be Red, Yellow, Blue, or the base color of the Mutagenic variant.
- If both of the parents are a Mutagenic variant:
a. If the child will be Chromatic, the child color will be determined from the parent colors using dye mixing rules (i.e. a Yellow and a Blue parent will have a Green child).
b. If the child will be Luminous, the child color will be determined from the parent colors using light mixing rules (i.e. a Red and a Green parent will have a Yellow child). c. Otherwise, the child color will be randomly chosen from one of the parent colors. - For Mythical variants, the Dimension the mob is born in may also impact their final variant.
Variants
Chromatic
The Chromatic variants are colored variants for the 16 dye colors in Minecraft.
Chromatic pigs will travel faster on dyed blocks that match their color, and have an added bonus that they can be halted by pressing jump
while riding them, to prevent them from running off of cliffs!
Chromatic Chickens lay colored eggs that can be used to change the color of dyeable blocks when thrown. They can also be fired from a dispenser to create redstone contraptions with color changing blocks!
Chromatic Cows give Dyed Milk. Instead of removing all status effects, dyed milk only removes specific status effects when consumed.
Luminous
The Luminous variants are glowing variants for the 16 dye colors in Minecraft. Luminous mobs have a permanent Glowing effect and will glow with their color. If the player has VESE installed, Luminous variants will have emissive textures in addition to the glowing outline.
Luminous pigs will travel faster than their Chromatic counterparts on dyed blocks, and will give their passenger Night Vision while they are being ridden. Like Chromatic pigs, they can be halted by holding jump
.
Luminous Chickens lay glowing eggs that can be thrown at blocks or entities. When hitting most blocks, a glowing colored outline will appear for a couple of seconds. When hitting dyeable blocks, the outline will remain until the block is removed. When hitting entities, the entity will gain a glowing outline in the color of the egg for 15 seconds.
Luminous Cows give Glowing Milk. Glowing milk will make a player who drinks it glow with the color of the milk for 15 seconds.
Mythical
There are 21 Mythical Variants, divided into a handful of subtypes.
Ore Variants
There are 7 Ore Variants: Coal, Copper, Iron, Gold, Redstone, Emerald, and Diamond.
Ore pigs travel faster on stone. Like other pigs, they can be halted by tapping jump
. They can also mine the two blocks in front of them if their passenger taps sprint
. When mining an ore that matches their variant, the drops are calculated as though they were mined with Fortune.
Ore chickens will lay a mix of stone eggs, which can be thrown at entities to hurt them, and ore eggs, typically a retextured raw version of a resource.
Ore cows give mineral enriched milk. Drinking mineral enriched milk will cause all nearby ores of that type to glow through walls, making mining more efficient.
Dessert Variants
There are 3 Dessert Variants: Chocolate, Vanilla, and Berry.
Dessert pigs will harvest and replant crops when walking over them.
Dessert chickens lay cake eggs, which are a good source of food.
Dessert cows give ice cream, which completely restores hunger but also gives the player slowness.
Nether Variants
There are 3 Nether Variants: Crimson, Warped, and Crying.
All Nether variants are fireproof.
Crimson
Crimson pigs travel faster on common Nether blocks, crimson wood blocks, and crimson nylium. Crimson chickens lay crimson eggs, which will cause the level of status effects on targets to increase, while causing the remaining duration to decrease. Crimson cows give crimson milk, which does the same thing to status effects on the player that drinks it.
Warped
Warped pigs travel faster on common Nether blocks, warped wood blocks, and warped nylium.
Warped chickens lay warped eggs, which will cause status effects on targets they hit to be inverted. Warped cows give warped milk, which inverts status effects on the player that drinks it.
Crying
Crying pigs can teleport between the Nether and the Overworld when their passenger taps sprint
.
Crying chickens lay a mix of obsidian eggs, which can be thrown at entities to hurt them, and crying eggs, which will teleport entities they hit between the Nether and the Overworld.
Crying cows give crying milk, which teleports the player that drinks it between the Nether and the Overworld.
Elemental Variants
